“In this delightful book, education Youtube sensation Señor Hodge introduces readers to his unusual collection of pets through simple sentences and humorous illustrations. This book is aimed for elementary school students and helps kids practice animal words and adjectives.” – description on Amazon.com
I’m excited to announce my first Spanish children’s picture book. A few years ago I was getting ready to review animals and adjectives with students. In first grade we combine these words together to create simple descriptions of animals. I wanted to provide students examples to test their knowledge. I knew the exact type of book that would be perfect to aid in this review. Unaware of the existence of any such book, I decided I’d just create it. On pieces of construction paper I penned and illustrated the perfect teaching aid. I’d used it in dozens of classes and have decided to preserve it and share it with other teachers and all students.
The book presents outrageous descriptions of animals that don’t correlate with common sense, for example, “My turtle is tall,” and “My dog is blue.” Then the book reveals on the following pages silly pictures that illustrate exactly what was stated.
This book presents two different sentence structures 1. Tengo un/una (perro). 2. Mi (perro) es (azul). The first is a simple sentence structure to express ownership, and the second is a simple description for a noun. While reading this book the teacher is also able to go over opposites. He or she can ask questions like: ¿La tortuga es alto? ¿Isn’t a tortuga usually bajo? Or ¿El hámster es grande? ¿Isn’t a hámster usually pequeño?
The original homemade version is presented in a video on my Youtube channel. This newly published paperback for you to own and use in your classroom follows the structure and integrity of what you see in the video version but has been improved and has some humorous additions.
This book is a Spanish Erizo book meaning it aligns with theming of my Spanish curriculum and Youtube channel.
